it’s much more than a dictionary definition, more than just a person
who happens to hold a passport with a maple leaf on it and certainly
more than what America isn’t.What do we — as a country — stand for?
What do we fight for, what do we represent and what values do we have
that are unique in the world?...

It sounds like a joke: a Jew, a Muslim and a Christian walk into a
synagogue. This time, however, it was true, when Nobel Peace
Prize-winner Elie Wiesel, renowned novelist Salman Rushdie and former
prime minister Brian Mulroney took the stage last month at Toronto’s
Beth Tzedec Synagogue to informally, and intellectually, shmooze on
world issues....

For twenty-five years, my father worked for Canada Post, and for eighteen years he delivered mail to an array of communities, and a variety of
nationalities. Over the course of a quarter century, he delivered to
Italians, Jews, Blacks, Poles, Asians – pretty much the United Nations
of colour and ethnicity, in both Halifax and Toronto....

start writing cheques. Too much is expected of a resident who wants to
file a complaint against or get information about the spending habits
of his local councillors.That’s a vital problem that needs fixing....

I recall with great clarity in a sex ed segment of health class in
Grade 8 our teacher asked, “If you or your girlfriend had to get an
abortion, would you keep it a secret or tell someone close to you?”“Had
to” get an abortion? Was the most pressing dilemma for a student in the
class whether to share this “secret”, in this hypothetical and
theoretical scenario?Why not discuss whether abortion is/was a wise
choice?...

You may know of Ezra Levant - Calgary-based author,
editorial writer, blogger, and most famously, the recipient of several ‘hate
speech’ lawsuits beginning with his publishing of the Danish Mohammed cartoons
four years ago.
The Human Rights Commissions are his favourite target of
derision. His biting commentary, his trademark. So-called “hate speech” is a
canard and free speech is his what he champions....

In the
past two weeks, Michelle Obama, Demi Moore, Ben Stiller, Susan Sarandon and
even Sean Penn, all flew in for post-earthquake photo ops with Haitian
children.
Nothing
like an earthquake of public relations Richter Scale to bring out Hollywood’s
eager must-be-seen me-too-ism.
Happily,
there were some people who came for purely altruistic reasons, who received
relatively little media attention, and actually helped save lives....
